Now the corner holds Schultz's armoire. A seating area took over the window seat, accompanied by an armchair and floor lamp. "Wall-to-wall carpeting makes bedrooms calmer and cozier. To soften sisal and bring in more pattern and texture, lay a cotton rug on top," she says.

Frances Schultz disguised her sloped ceiling with a half canopy, creating height and drama. "Splurge on wonderful linens. Nothing will make you feel more pampered or your room more personal. Mine are from Leontine, with my own custom bee appliqué," she says.

A blue-green hydrangea complements the blue walls. "Make a collage on a glass-topped table. For the bedroom dressing table I did one with old calendar illustrations," suggests Schultz.

Before: The Study

This room is next to the bedroom. Shultz decided to combine these two, completing the master suite with a study and dressing area.

After: The Study and Dressing Room

Fitting a daybed, the study can serve as an extra guest room in a pinch. "Skirted tables are great for storage, but organize the stuff so it's easy to get to. Pin a discreet little list on or near the table to remind you what's under there," advises Schultz.

After: The Office Area

The high-gloss paint helps brighten up this tiny room. "A group of small pictures mounted from the ceiling almost to the floor makes an interesting vignette. The secret is keeping the space between the frames consistent. Arrange them on the floor or bed first, starting with a center picture and working outward," she says.
